University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior guard Dontay Hampton broke his right hand Thursday in the Mocs' 91-88 win over Appalachian State.

Hampton missed the first 15 games of the season while recovering from knee surgery. He played in UTC's last three games and set a career-high with 22 points in leading UTC back from a 19-point second-half deficit on Thursday.

Coach John Shulman said there are two options. One is for Hampton to play through the pain. The other option is for surgery. He added there is no timetable for the decision.

"He got fouled, and when he broke his fall he broke his hand," Shulman said. "I don't know that the prognosis is. I wouldn't put a whole lot of things by him. We're going to see how painful it is."

UTC plays Western Carolina on Saturday at 7 p.m. in McKenzie Arena.
