Bryan sweeps Union in AAC games

The Bryan College basketball teams pulled off a home doubleheader sweep against Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Union College on Saturday, the Lady Lions winning 56-53 in a mild upset and the Lions topping the Kentucky school 73-69.

Tennessee Wesleyan also swept an AAC doubleheader, 66-49 in the women's game at Reinhardt and 110-73 for the first-place Bulldogs. They rose to 13-7 overall, 7-1 in the league; the Lady Bulldogs are 10-7, 7-2.

Bryan's women (10-8, 5-4) overcame 31 turnovers with Jenna Ray, Morgan Burnette and Keila Formont scoring 14, 13 and 11 points and Abigail Pippenger and Kelsey Brooks making five and four steals. Robert Troino and Robert Riley led the Lions with 17 and 16 points, Riley adding five assists, and Derrick Walker had 14 points with four steals.

• At Cleveland, Lee's sixth-ranked NAIA Division I teams took turns battering visiting Brewton-Parker in Southern States play, the Lady Flames winning 82-34 with Hollie German making five 3-pointers in 28 points and Jenna Adams adding 10 points, 19 rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots. Christina Johnson had 12 rebounds and Myriah Iles added eight with her 10 points. Brooke Hamby also had four steals.

The Flames (17-1, 8-1) got 17 points and four assists from Will Barnes and 12 points from Corey Billingsley in their 80-38 rout.

• At Florida College, the Tennessee Temple men fell to 9-10 with an 86-82 loss, but the Temple Lady Crusaders won 75-43 with 14 points from Jessica Salera, 13 from Alexis McGhee and 11 apiece from Amber Charles, Amanda Rector and TaQuasha O'Neal. Charles also had seven steals and eight rebounds. Rector had 17 points and seven assists and Salera and O'Neal scored 15 and 13 points in Friday's 85-62 loss at Clearwater Christian.

• On Lookout Mountain, A.J. Williams' 22 points and eight rebounds placed Florida Christian past the Covenant Scots, 68-64, after the host Lady Scots fell 75-58 to Huntingdon in a Great South game. Jon DeVries had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Covenant men (10-7), while T.J. Cox had six assists with 10 points and Sam Bowman also tallied 10 points. Ruth Gibson and Jessie Blankenship scored 15 and 14 points and Morgan Woodward made four steals for the Lady Scots; Patricia Pickens scored 20 points and Devin Douglas had 13 points, 13 rebounds and four steals for Huntingdon.

• At Cleveland State, the host teams swept Roane State in TCCAA play, 58-47 for the Lady Cougars and 72-67 for the guys, who got 17 points and four assists from Ralph Eason, 15 points from Filipe Goncalves and 14 and 13 points from Trey Suttles and Travis Jones. Robyn Anthony had 18 points and seven steals for the Lady Cougars.
