Dad says pit bull bit through Georgia child's ear

COLUMBUS, Ga. - A Columbus man says a neighbor's pit bull escaped its leash and chomped a hole in his 8-year-old son's earlobe as the family was outside for a jog.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports animal control officers have quarantined the dog for 10 days. If it's free of disease, the pit bull will be returned to its owner.

Marcus Mitchum says his family was jogging Thursday when the pit bull slipped free of the leash its owner was holding and charged. He says the dog latched onto his son's back and ripped a hole in the boy's ear.

Owner Elbert Martin says the dog, named Bobo, was only playing and he didn't see it bite the boy.

Mitchum says his son is doing well after getting stitches in his torn ear.
