Rainy forecasts force cancellation of fireworks and Fourth of July events in Fort Oglethorpe, Collegedale

With weather forecasts calling for a 100 percent chance of rain Wednesday night, two area community events to commemorate the Fourth of July have been canceled.

Patriotism at the Post in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., and the fireworks in Collegedale have been canceled.

Collegedale rescheduled the fireworks for Sept. 1.

In Fort Oglethrope, Chris McKeever, organizer of the annual event put on by city's Tourism Association, said the organization may hold a fireworks show later this year.

"The weather got us this year," she said.

The Patriotism at the Post event features fireworks and patriotic music on the grounds of the former Army post polo field on Barnhardt Circle.
