East Ridge police responded to 3613 Wimberly Lane on Tuesday night after family members found the two residents dead inside the home, according to a news release.

Family members of Susan Ingram forced the door open when they couldn't get anyone to answer. Inside, they found Susan Ingram dead from a single gunshot wound to the head. Next to her in bed was James Ingram, also with a single gunshot wound to the head, the release said.

James Ingram was found holding a small handgun, missing two cartridges.

The bodies were sent to the Hamilton County Medical Examiner's office on Amnicola Highway. Officers are awaiting a final report from the preliminary examinations.

Evidence suggests James Ingram shot his wife prior to shooting himself, East Ridge police said in the release.

Family of Susan Ingram became concerned Tuesday after she did not show up to work at the McKee Bakery.
