A certified nursing assistant faces a charge of abusing a vulnerable adult after she slapped a permanent resident at NHC Chattanooga.
The incident happened a year ago at the health care facility that offers services including rehabilitation, hospice and long-term care for patients.
Shanae Monet Kirksey, 27, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant. Her bond was set at $1,500.
She is accused of assaulting a patient while cleaning her at the 207-bed facility at 2700 Parkwood Ave.
Kirksey had the woman rolled to her left side to allow workers to remove bed pads to prevent bed sores and infection, according to the arrest report.
When the woman did not comply with Kirksey's commands, Kirksey reportedly slapped her on the buttock, the report states. When interviewed by Chattanooga police, Kirksey denied that she struck the woman.
Another staff member witnessed the act and when police spoke to the patient, she said Kirksey yelled at her and struck her, according to the report.
Jay Nason, administrator for the facility, said Kirksey has not worked at the facility since the incident. The incident was reported to state and local authorities.
"We don't put up with any allegations of abuse or neglect," Nason said.
Kirksey is scheduled to appear before Hamilton County General Sessions Court Judge Christine Sell on July 19.
