Thomas hosts Amputee Long Drive event
Former McCallie School golfer Jordan Thomas will be competing July 18-19 in the Amputee Long Drive Championship presented by Pilot Flying J at Tennessee National Golf Club.
Participants are from the U.S. and Canada, and all benefits will go toward the Jordan Thomas Foundation -- an organization he set up while still in the hospital after losing his legs below the knee in a boating accident. The JTF assists children by providing adequate protheses until they turn 18 years old.
"This is the inaugural event," founder Dean Jarvis said. "It's very important because of Jordan's work as an advocate of amputees, children and insurance fairness. He's an incredible advocate for amputees."
Four Mocs honored
UTC announced Tuesday that Jordan Britt, Mette Kryger, Isabella Loza and Emily McLennan made the Women's Golf Coaches Association Division I All-American Scholar team for 2013. Britt and Kryger are second-time recipients of the honor requiring a minimum 3.5 grade point average; the other two were freshmen. The Mocs also had four in 2011.
Sewanee's Emily Javadi from Chattanooga was announced as a Division III honoree Monday.

The entry fee is $140 and applications can be found at www.IfYouLikeGolf.com or in the Lookout pro shop.
The Cleveland Invitational was set to be played the first weekend in May, but rain forced postponement until July 20-21 at Cleveland Country Club. Applications are available at IfYouLikeGolf.com or by contacting the pro shop.
Scenic City 18
