Movies in the Park series begins - July 13-27

Saturday's Movies in the Park event at Coolidge Park is canceled as First Things First organizers attempt to dodge expected heavy rains.First Things First Director of Marketing and Operations Andrea Perry Lyons said today that the series will start up next Saturday, July 13, at the scheduled sunset time, around 9 p.m.

The big screen is going up for four weeks of family films at Coolidge Park.

Movies in the Park, now in its 11th season, is presented by First Things First, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening marriages and families. This series of film screenings Saturday nights in July "encourages families to spend quality time together while watching a family-friendly box-office hit on a giant movie screen."

Movies will start at sundown, which is just after 9 p.m. Families are welcome to bring blankets, strollers or lawn chairs for seating. Concessions will be available for purchase on-site, but picnic baskets from home are also welcome.

Admission is free. Any child under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

The park's fountain and carousel also will be available to families as they wait on the movies to start.
