Rotarians cook up some fun

What: Members of the Chattanooga Rotary Downtown, Hamilton Place and Breakfast clubs put on the Gourmet Guys food-tasting in First Tennessee Pavilion. Forty-four chefs -- Rotary members and their friends -- slipped on aprons and served dishes they prepared.

Benefits: The cookoff raised funds for Rotary's local and international philanthropic projects.

First-place winners: Judge Neil Thomas, soups; Lester Perreault, desserts; Mike Brown, main course; Don Musick, appetizers.

Popular vote winners: Venny Scaduto, first; Sydney Franklin, second.


Kohl's donates $61,987 to the Children's Hospital

What: Kohl's Department Store and the Safe and Sound program at T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital at Erlanger partnered for a recent safety fair at the department store on Highway 153. Kohl's shoppers were offered special discounts, Erlanger's Life Force air medical team made a flyover, and games and cookie-decorating were offered as children's activities.

Benefits: Kohl's presented Children's Hospital with a check for $61,987 to support community health and education for children.


Buckner Foundation presents gift to Lee

What: The Ralph Buckner Foundation made a $10,000 donation to Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.

Benefits: The gift is to expand the Shipley Rose Buckner Memorial Scholarship Fund, established in 2011 in honor of the daughter of Ralph Buckner Jr. The scholarship is awarded to education majors at Lee.
