David CarrollWRCB-TV anchor David Carroll will tell the stories behind his book in a program at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at Tennessee Valley Theatre, 184 W. Jackson Ave., Spring City.
Carroll's book, "Chattanooga Radio and Television," explores the history of local broadcasting, with stories spanning from the 1920s to the wonders of today's technology. It includes segments on the unprecedented career of Radio Hall of Fame legend Luther Masingill, the early days of local television and the big names who have come and gone. The audience will see the faces behind the radio voices, learn more about favorite TV personalities, and see and hear highlights from Carroll's radio and television archives, some dating to 1940. There's also a chance to see local news bloopers never before shown in public.
Carroll also plans to give away a few prizes.
He explains: "Bob Barker was one of my TV heroes when I was a kid. He got paid to give away prizes and have women come up and hug him. I thought that was a cool job."
Also participating in the program will be local authors Bill Thedford, Roxie Gibson, Ken Emel and Rich Everitt.
