Documents filed with a state agency show that a carpet company expects to invest $350 million to complete one of two new factories planned for Georgia.
Engineered Floors filed documents with the Department of Community Affairs saying the project should generate almost $7 million a year in local sales and property tax revenue.
The planned facility is a 2 million-square-foot manufacturing center. The Calhoun, Ga.-based company in May announced that it would build two new plants in northwest Georgia. It has said it will hire 2,400 workers at the plants in Whitfield and Murray counties.
Decatur may get $500,000 grant
Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam on Thursday recommended a $500,000 Appalachian Regional Commission Grant to provide upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant in Decatur, Tenn.
Funds provided by the ARC grant would go toward improving the plant, which operates above capacity 40 percent of the time.
Currently, there is a sewer moratorium in place and no new customers, including any new industries, can be added until the upgrades are complete.
The grant would be matched with $1.2 million from the local community. The project will serve 542 residential customers.
