Metro police say they've cracked a major illegal prescription pill ring that dealt in thousands of pills, pounds of marijuana and an assortment of cocaine, psychedelic mushrooms and guns.

Police say the investigation began in August 2012 with narcotics detectives looking into the trafficking of hydromorphone, a powerful opiate painkiller also known as Diluadid. Detectives worked their way from street dealers to distributors, seizing more than 6,600 pills, five pounds of marijuana, 80 grams of cocaine, eight grams of mushrooms, 25 vehicles, 21 guns, a house and $121,550 in cash.
