Jack Barker honored at Star-Spangled Supper

What: Although rain canceled fireworks and the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera's patriotic pops concert outdoors, it didn't dampen the fun at the annual Star-Spangled Supper fundraiser held inside the Chattanooga Theatre Centre. About 200 people gathered for barbecue, an auction of 10 gift baskets and a performance of the national anthem by the cast of the next CTC musical, "Legally Blonde."

Honoree: Executive Director George Quick announced that the theater's Green Room will be named in honor of longtime volunteer and supporter Jack Barker.

Tennessee Wesleyan faculty, staff spend day in service

What: Faculty and staff of Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tenn., along with some of their family members, spent a day in community service to support the United Way's Day of Caring in McMinn and Meigs counties.

Benefits: The volunteers painted, made repairs, cleaned and did landscaping for United Way agencies that did not have manpower or funds to accomplish renovations on their own.
