Update: Chattanooga settles 7-year-old police discrimination lawsuit

Tuesday, July 16, 2013

Chattanooga City Council voted unanimously to settle a 7-year-old discrimination lawsuit giving 10 police officers $725,000 to split.

The resolution avoided a trial where Chattanooga police Lt. Bobby Rodgers and nine other white officers claimed the department in 2005 refused to promote any white officers.

The officers claimed that then-Police Chief Steve Parks imposed a promotion freeze but temporarily lifted it to promote a black officer from lieutenant to captain.
