Appeals court upholds federal judge decision on Hamilton County prayer lawsuit

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit has sided with a local federal judge in not requiring the Hamilton County Commission halt its meeting prayers as two sides battle out the issue in court.

The appeals court upheld U.S. District Judge Harry S. "Sandy" Mattice's August 2012 ruling against the injunction filed by local attorney Robin Flores on behalf of his clients Thomas Coleman and Brandon Jones.

The plaintiffs had asked that the federal court order the commission to stop its prayers as the courts sorted out the heart of the case - whether faith-specific prayer was allowed at all at the government meeting.
