A Rossville man was arrested Thursday for felony theft charges, after a Tennessee state trooper identified his vehicle as stolen.

According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol news release, Tennessee State Trooper Richard Thomas was patrolling in Chattanooga on Wednesday when his license plate reader identified a stolen 2003 Chevrolet Silverado.

The Chattanooga THP center confirmed the find.

Thomas and THP Criminal Investigations Division Sgt. Thomas Clower secured the truck Wednesday night.

The suspect, Shannon Edward Whaley, 34, had existing active warrants out of Rossvile and Hamilton County. Tennessee Highway Patrol placed another warrant for his arrest Wednesday for theft over $10,000.

Clower contacted a friend of Whaley's Thursday and negotiated Whaley's surrender to authorities. Whaley turned himself in to a Hamilton County Sheriff's Office official around 6 p.m., the release states.
