Hamilton County jobless rate rises in June

Hamilton County's unemployment rate climbed in June to 8.8 percent from 8.2 percent, according to a release today from the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development.

The department said Davidson County had the lowest metro rate in the state for June - 7.1 percent, which was up from 6.7 percent in May.

Knox County's rate for June was 7.3 percent, up from 6.8 percent, and Shelby County's jobless rate was 10.3 percent, also a gain from 9.7 percent in May.

Tennessee's preliminary rate for June was 8.5 percent, an increase of two-tenths of a percent from the rate of 8.3 percent in May. The national rate for June was 7.6 percent, unchanged from the preceding month.
