Ice Cream Social scoops up $4,000 for children's agency

What: Visitors to Chattanooga Market during the annual Ice Cream Social had the opportunity to sample flavors from six area creameries and vote on their favorites. Participating brands/shops were Mayfield, Bluebell, Baskin Robbins, Nana's Frozen Custard, Milk & Honey and Ice Cream Show.

Benefits: For a $5 donation to the Children's Home/ Chambliss Shelter, customers got two samples from each of the six creameries. The event raised more than $4,000 for the children's agency.

Winners: Best Pure Flavor, Nana's Frozen Custard's Orange Dream; Best Flavor with Inclusions, Milk & Honey's Blueberry Buttermilk.

Stuff the Bus supports Hamilton County teachers

What: United Way of Greater Chattanooga sponsored a "Stuff the Bus" campaign on July 20, held in the parking lot of Brewhaus on Frazier Avenue.

Benefits: The event collected school supplies for donation to the Hamilton County PTA Teacher Supply Depot.

Baylor graduate raises $19,000 for Children's Hospital

What: Lauren Johnson, the 2013 valedictorian at Baylor School, combined her interest in golf and charity work to organize the first Chattanooga for Children's Hospital Golf Tournament, held at Chattanooga Golf and Country Club.

Benefits: The tournament raised more than $19,000 for Children's Hospital at Erlanger, which will be used for patient rooms renovation.
