DECATUR, AL - Authorities have identified the angler who died when a bass boat hit a low-hanging power line across the Tennessee River in north Alabama.

Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn says 65-year-old Anthony Szozda of Athens died in the accident, which happened Tuesday afternoon.

Chunn says the man was sitting in the passenger seat beside the driver when the boat struck a line that was hanging just a few feet above the water.

The Decatur Daily reports that the power line runs to the Tennessee Valley Authority's Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant at Athens. The line is a couple of miles from the plant, TVA spokesman Duncan Mansfield said.

Police say TVA was working on the line before the accident.

A TVA statement calls the accident "unusual and unfortunate." The utility says it's trying to understand what happened.
