Golf Notes: Samantha Griffith wins Tennessee Junior PGA Championship

Ooltewah rising senior Samantha Griffith won the Tennessee Junior PGA Championship on Tuesday at Brentwood Country Club. That qualified her for the national Junior PGA Championship to be played July 30-Aug. 2 at Trump National Golf Club in Potomac Falls, Va.

Griffith shot a final-round 74 for a two-day total of 1-over 145 to win by four strokes.

State Four-Ball starts Thursday

The 43rd annual Tennessee four-ball championship will begin Thursday at Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville. The Chattanooga area will be represented by at least seven two-man teams. Matt Robertson teamed with Matt Hadden to win the championship last year at Cleveland Country Club. Hadden is not participating this year, and Robertson is teamed with Hunter Vest.

Chattanooga Open closes today

Registration for the Ira Templeton Chattanooga Open at Creeks Bend Golf Club, to be held June 10-11, closes today. Applications for the tournament -- open to amateurs and professionals -- are available in the pro shop and online at www.IfYouLikeGolf.com.

Metro is open

Applications for the Chattanooga Men's Metro championship July 12-14 at Lookout Mountain Golf Club are available in the pro shop and at www.IfYouLikeGolf.com. Registration is open to any amateur living within 25 minutes of a course belonging to the Chattanooga District Golf Association.

Area aces

Linda Carter sank her fourth career hole-in-one at Creeks Bend on Wednesday. She aced the 103-yard No. 6 with a pitching wedge while playing with Leslie Nelson and Sharon Powell.

Ronnie Wilson made his first hole-in-one Saturday at Moccasin Bend. He aced No. 10 from 181 yards with a 3-hybrid while playing with Matthew Moss.

Tyler Hogan of Valdosta, Ga., scored his third hole-in-one Sunday during the North Georgia Invitational at Dalton Golf and Country Club. He aced No. 14 from 177 yards with a 7-iron while paired with Joel Hughes and David Odum.
