NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Board of Regents later this month will consider another round of student tuition/maintenance fee hikes recommended Tuesday by the board's Finance and Business Operations Committee.

But the increases are lower than in recent years, offset by state government's first increase in general operating money for higher education in more than a decade.

Students at the board's community colleges, including Chattanooga State and Cleveland State, would see 3 percent increases.

Those attending four-year universities, such as Tennessee Tech and Tennessee State University, would see increases of 1.4 percent to 6 percent.

When combined with already approved mandatory fees in areas like athletics and student activities, the proposed price increases come to $102 per year for community college students taking 15 credit hours. They range from $72 per year at TSU to $546 at East Tennessee State University.

Students at the Tennessee Technology Centers will not see a maintenance fee increase.

The full board will vote on the recommendations at its quarterly meeting June 21.
