VW Passat TDI seeks fuel record

A Chattanooga-made Volkswagen Passat TDI will attempt a world record for fuel economy on an 8,000-mile drive through the lower 48 states. Two drivers will pilot a 2013 Passat "clean diesel" for the effort that will take about two weeks, according to Volkswagen of America.

The car's drivers started Friday, leaving from VW's Herndon, Va., headquarters, where the Guinness world record try by a nonhybrid vehicle also will end. VW Executive Vice President David Geanacopoulos said the initiative is "a fun and exciting way for Volkswagen to demonstrate the efficiency advantages of diesel technology."

Decosimo to move offices

The Chattanooga-based Decosimo accounting firm announced Friday the firm will update several of its nine offices this year, including the relocation of its Memphis office on July 1. The firm is relocating to a site on Ridgeway Loop in Memphis, just a few blocks from the firm's former Memphis location on Poplar Avenue.

"With all of our office updates, it's our goal to utilize the available space more efficiently and create a more modern feel for our clients and staff to enjoy," said Nick Decosimo, managing principal for Decosimo. Decosimo employs about 300 accountants and other staffers at its offices in the United States and the Cayman Islands.
