A career expo for job-seekers in the Trenton, Ga., area will be held Thursday, sponsored by the Georgia Department of Labor.

"Career fairs give job-seekers a chance to get a better feel for the company, while making a good first impression and having an opportunity to get hired at the event," said Labor Department spokesman Sam Hall. "It allows employers to see the number of employees they could hire and meet one on one with potential employees to discuss job opportunities and make a hiring decision all in one day."

Dade County's unemployment rate is 7 percent.

The expo will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Dade County Commission Room, 71 Case Ave. in Trenton. It is presented by the LaFayette, Ga., Career Center.

"If there are employers that wish to participate, [they should] contact the Career Center in LaFayette, Ga.," Hall said.

Registered participants include Amara Home Care, Automation Personnel Services, Elwood Staffing, Express Employment, First Choice Personnel, Personnel Staffing and Mercy Senior Care.

Applicants should be dressed appropriately and be prepared to present multiple resumes, fill out applications and interview for available job openings.

"We are hoping to get a couple hundred job seekers to come to the career fair," said Judy Holcomb, manager at the LaFayette Career Center. "We usually have about eight to 10 participating employers."

"Anyone looking for a job should contact the LaFayette Career Center and attend the career fair [on Thursday]," said Hall. "It is an excellent way to connect employers with qualified applicants."
