State father-son tourney this weekend

Stonehenge Golf Club at Crossville is hosting the 34th annual TGA Father-Son Championship this Saturday and Sunday, and scoring will be modified Stableford for the 60 teams.

Defending champions Wes and Paul Korth will be trying for a sixth title.

Cleveland reset

Scenic City 18

The Chattanooga Times Free Press is seeking input from golfers, golf pros and others who enjoy the game to create the Scenic City 18. That is a project designed to select the best golf holes from courses in the area and combine them into ideal 18-hole combinations.

One Scenic City 18 will feature holes from private courses. Another will cover public courses from as far south as Calhoun and north as Manchester, as far west as Fort Payne and eastward to Chatsworth.

Area aces

Jan Dillard scored his third hole-in-one recently while on vacation. He aced No. 13 at Lost Key in Orange Beach, Ala., from 125 yards with a 9-iron. Chris Mitchell and Kenny Williams were witnesses.

Roy Steele made his second ace Saturday at Moccasin Bend. He used an 8-iron for the 151-yard tee shot on No. 6 while golfing with Josh Davidson.

Dennis Turbo scored a hole-in-one Saturday at Battlefield . He aced No. 3 from 144 yards with a 7-iron while playing as a single.

Fred Nicely hit his 10th hole-in-one Saturday at Creeks Bend on the 142-yard No. 10 hole with a 9-iron. A.J. Javadi, Tim Starne and Sam Killeffer were witnesses.

Matt Newell sank his first hole-in-one Monday at Moccasin Bend. He aced No. 10 at 177 yards with a 6-iron as Kirk Kain, Rob Balch and Ken Wilson watched.

Robert Lemmons scored his first hole-in-one back in May at Lupton City. He aced No. 6 from 182 yards with a 7-iron as James Hughes, Dub Sampley and Grady Elsea watched.
