MES examines ins and outs of 'The Shining' in 'Room 237' (June 14)

Fans of director Stanley Kubrick or his horror film should take interest in the latest movie screening from the Mise En Scenesters vault.

On Friday, June 14, the Chattanooga film club will show "Room 237," a subjective documentary that explores the numerous theories about the hidden meaning within "The Shining," Kubrick's 1980 thriller.

"Room 237" examines five distinct points of views through voice-overs, film clips, animation and dramatic re-enactments. MES founder/programmer Chris Dortch calls it "one of the most bizarre and entertaining documentaries you are likely to see in 2013."

"Show up a little early," he adds, "and get treated to a primer on 'Shining' theory by Perrin J. Lance and a few other folks with 'Shining' theories to share. This will be a strange and memorable evening."

After the film, Lance will lead a discussion of the audience's "Shining" conspiracy theories.

The preshow starts at 8:30 p.m. at Barking Legs Theater, 1307 Dodds Ave. Admission is $7. For more information, visit mesfilmclub.com.
