Former University of Tennessee basketball coach Wade Houston will be the speaker for the Chattanooga State Athletic Hall of Fame dinner Friday at 6 p.m. at the Walden Club, and tickets cost $50. This year's inductees are softball player Kim O'Kelley Wingate, basketball player Alicia Ransom Woolwine and baseball pitcher Drew Bowlin, and Chattanooga Lookouts owner Frank Burke and the Chattanooga Coca-Cola Bottling Co. will be the first recipients of the school's Distinguished Service Award for athletic support. Houston, a longtime assistant coach at Louisville and now a businessman in that Kentucky city, coached Chatt State men's and women's basketball coach Jay Price with the Volunteers. Houston is on the board of the community college's foundation and has served as honorary chair of its annual fund; Burke was a previous honorary chair.

• The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga athletic department won three "best of" awards at the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators convention this past week in Orlando, Fla. UTC got a gold award for revenue generation -- for the fourth year in a row -- with the Mocs Mobile Ticket Van and bronze awards for single-game attendance-gameday entertainment and for season-ticket sales campaign. The NACMA awards program includes 13 categories divided into three groups based on school size and conference affiliation, and UTC was one of only eight NCAA Division I program earning three or more out of the record 1,000-plus entries this year. The season-ticket promotion honored was the 2012 Father's Day Package for football. The attendance-entertainment bronze was for the "Pac the Mac" promotion that helped bring 2,639 spectators to Maclellan Gymnasium for the wrestling Mocs' match against longtime national power Iowa.

Golf

• The Georgia Junior Championship for boys ages 14-17 will be contested Monday through Wednesday at The Farm golf course in Rocky Face. This will be the fifth GSGA-sanctioned event held at the 25-year-old course, but it is the first Georgia Junior. The 144 entrants in the 54-hole stroke-play tournament include Tucker Snipes and Ethan Hayes of Rocky Face and Allen Behr, Tyler Clayton and Landon Hicks of neidhboring Dalton, as well as John Blevins of Ringgold, Jacob Morgan of LaFayette, Brock Stewart of Calhoun and Grant Schuette of Blairsville. The field will be cut to the low 70 and ties after the second round. The top eight finishers will earn spots in the 2013 Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match competition, and the winner gets an exemption into the Georgia Amateur Championship next month at Kennesaw.

• Amateurs Tom Baird of Signal Mountain and Gerald Burrell of Charleston, Tenn., are among the 111 golfers who will be trying Monday at The Standard Club in Johns Creek, Ga., for four spots and two alternate positions in the U.S. Senior Open Championship next month at Omaha, Neb. It is for professionals and amateurs at least 50 years old. Monday's qualifier is 18 holes.
