Riddle's record wins Stage Race

David Riddle of Cincinnati now has two records in ultra-distance races in the Salomon Rock/Creek Trail Series. After setting a record in the StumpJump 50k in 2011, Riddle returned to the area this past weekend and won the Chattanooga Mountains Stage Race in a record time of 6 hours, 47 minutes, 15 seconds for the 18-mile leg Friday on Raccoon Mountain, the 22-mile Lookout Mountain stage Saturday and 20-mile finale Sunday on Signal Mountain. The previous record was 6:58:59 in 2011 by Nashville's Daniel Mueller, who was second this time in 6:59:22. Riddle was first and Mueller was second in each of the stages, and Ooltewah's Bob Adams was third overall in 7:12:40. Sarah Gollub of Nashville was the women's winner and 36th overall in 9:05:26. Participants came from 21 states and Canada.

Golf

Scott and Jack Smith of Knoxville scored 80 points in the modified Stableford system Saturday and added 72 on Father's Day for a six-point overall win in the TGA Father-Son Championship at Stonehenge Golf Club at Fairfield Glade. Luke and Bradley Sewell of Athens tied for sixth in the championship flight at 131, 15 behind flight winners Dustin and Greg Wilder.

Fishing

Nick Pratt and Tony Crouch won the Chattanooga Bass Assassins cancer benefit over the weekend at Chester Frost Park with a catch weighing 19.14 pounds, well ahead of the second place team of Ronnie Cross and Mark Triplett at 15.89 pounds. Chris Height and Lance Nunley (14.95) were third, while Brian Wood and Tiffany Howard (12.32) finished fourth.
