Good for you: Fitzsimmons receives Air Force scholarship

Music Club names officers, teacher of year

Chattanooga Music Club recently elected its new officers and honored Sally Powell as its Chattanooga Music Teacher of the Year.

New officers are Sigrid Luther, president; Beverly Nunley, vice president; Alayne Griffin, treasurer; Katheron Latham, corresponding secretary; and Angie Smith, recording secretary.

Powell, an adjunct music professor at Bryan College, is vice president of the Chattanooga Music Teachers Association, director of the Bryan College Community Youth Choir and a faculty member of the Bryan College Community Music School. She is a member of the Music Teachers National Association and National Association of Teachers of Singing.

Brock Champion earns New Eagle Scout award

Brock Champion received his Eagle Scout award during a Court of Honor held at Peavine Baptist Church in Rock Spring, Ga.

Champion, a member of Troop 224, is the son of Tracy and Kristy Champion of Rock Spring. He is a rising sophomore at Gordon Lee High School.

For the community service project required of all Eagle Scouts, Brock led a project to landscape a 3,000-square-foot hillside at Peavine Baptist Church's new Epic Center. He used the church's plant lists to match existing landscaping, obtained plants, soil and mulch through funds raised from family and friends and supervised 24 workers on the project.


Kids Go contest winners named

Winners of WTCI Channel 45's Kids Go! Writers Contest were recently announced. Winners were chosen in age divisions of kindergarten, first, second and third grades.

First-place winners were: Peter Samuel Santos, kindergarten; Ashlyn Rock, first grade; Emilia Liedke, second grade; and Trinity Henry, third grade.

Second-place winners: Samarth Mahapatra, kindergarten; Amirtha Vijayarankan, first grade; Evelyn Carswell, second grade; and Autumn Larmee, third grade.

Third-place winners were Graylen Marie Scoggins, kindergarten; David Wakim, first grade; Garrett Allsen, second grade; and Callie Anderson, third grade.

Honorable mentions were given to Kaeden Arbuckle, kindergarten; Kyla Curry, first grade; Anne Giannamore, second grade; and Emmy Moyen, third grade.

The first-place winners advance to the national contest.

Samantha Bradley earns West Point appointment

Samantha Bradley of Johnson City, Tenn., has been accepted to West Point Military Academy this fall after receiving a nomination from Sen. Bob Corker and Rep. Phil Roe, both R-Tenn.

Bradley is the daughter of Susan Bradley of Johnson City and Barry Bradley of Chattanooga. She is the granddaughter of Peggy Smith, the late Charles Smith, Sue Bradley and the late Hunter Bradley, all of Chattanooga.

Bradley is a graduate of Science Hill High School in Johnson City. She has attended West Point's summer leadership seminar, Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., and the Johnson City Chamber of Commerce's Youth Leadership Program.
