Courtney Chandler of Franklin shot a 69 Monday for a four-shot lead in stroke-play qualifying in the state Women's Amateur golf tournament at The Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin. Lookout Mountain's Mary Alice Murphy is in fourth place at 74, one shot behind 2011 winner Kendall Martindale of Jefferson City and Megan Lynn Williamson of Murfreesboro. Chattanooga teenager Blakesly Warren is tied for seventh at 76, and Chattanooga's Jordan Britt shares 12th at 77. Jenna Burris of Manchester shot 79, Lauren Johnson of Signal Mountain and Jessica Cathey of Soddy-Daisy shot 80, and Cleveland's Lisa Daubner and Manchester's Ashley Gilliam shot 81.

Auto Racing

• Bobby Lloyd of Silver Creek, Ga., won the $1,500 top prize in the Super Pro class Saturday night at the Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip despite a carburetor malfunction that led to a 20.55-second final run. He won because the other finalist, Ronnie Kilgore of Rising Fawn, broke out by .002 second in his classic 1969 AMX. Marty Goldsmith of Ringgold was the Foot Brake winner with an 8.60 run in his 1974 Plymouth Duster; Ringgold's Chris Smith was second. Jake Clayton won the Junior Dragster division with a 7.95 run on a 7.94 dial in his 1-cylinder Briggs & Stratton-powered car prepared by his father, Mike Clayton; Kaleb Winters was second. The Super Pro winner this Saturday will get $5,000.

• Robert Gant of Flat Rock, Ala., won the Super Late Model feature race at Fort Payne Motor Speedway for the second week in a row Saturday night.

Football

• The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team will be featured in three of the Southern Conference's eight games shown on ESPN3.com this fall. UTC and Wofford lead the league with three telecasts each, including their Nov. 9 meeting at Finley Stadium. The Mocs' other ESPN3 games are Oct. 12 against Furman and Nov. 16 at Samford.

• Former UTC football players Adam Miller and Shane Heatherly have been named to the 2013 Hampshire Honor Society by the National Football Foundation and the College Football Hall of Fame. Heatherly and Miller graduated in May and maintained 3.2 or better grade point averages throughout their Mocs careers.

Baseball

• The Chattanooga Cyclones K baseball team went 4-0 in winning the Southern Wood Bat Tennessee Tech Invitational this past weekend, and the Cyclones V squad was 3-1, losing only to K. Gabe Rich was the winning pitcher in that 11-1 game, when Brody Binder scored three runs and drove in two and Seth Hickman had two hits and an RBI. Also for the K team, Dakota Hudson struck out 10 batters in a 7-0 victory over Pro Concepts, when Zach Hartfield had two hits and two runs and Corey Edgemon and Aaron Granger each had two hits, a run and an RBI. Granger had three hits, two runs, two RBIs and the pitching win after a four-run seventh inning produced a 7-6 defeat of the Alabama Bluesox. Josh Poole and Trevor Mercer each had two hits in that game and Mercer added two along with Binder in a 12-0 win over the Chattanooga Baseball Club, when Zach Thompson pitched a one-hitter, Kyle Kapherr tripled twice among three hits with four RBIs and three runs and Corey Edgemon had three hits and three runs. For the Cyclones V, Thomas Boals had three hits, a run and an RBI, J Foskey scored twice and Nick Gaddis got the win in a 4-3 escape of Pro Concepts, and Gaddis and Cole Vaughn each had two hits and an RBI and Bryce Owen had two hits and two runs in a 7-4 defeat of the Bluesox with Tyler Reed notching the win and Davis Culpepper getting a save. Vaughn was the winning pitcher in an 8-1 victory over the CBC with Charlie Martin getting two hits and two RBIs, Cade Evans two hits, a run and an RBI and Gaddis and Mercer each a two-run hit and a run.

• The Chattanooga Cyclones 15-under baseball team improved to 3-1 in pool play at the Perfect Game World Wood Bat nationals with a win Monday morning over the previously unbeaten Indiana Prospects. Jackson Bell pitched a complete game and Alex Tucker drove in three runs with a home run and a double for the Cyclones, who got two hits and two runs from Noah Hill and a two-run double from Hunter Oliver. The Prospects have players from five states.

Fishing

• In conjunction with the Walmart FLW Tour on Lake Chickamauga presented by Chevy being held Thursday through Sunday out of Dayton, Don Ledford Automotive in Cleveland is hosting "Chevy Pro Night" from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, and the public is invited. Chevy-sponsored bass anglers Luke Clausen, Anthony Gagliardi, Dion Hibdon, Jimmy Houston, Larry Nixson, Bryan Thrift and Jay Yelas are lined up to sign autographs, pose for photographs and "give tips and strategies and swap fishing tales with fans" at the dealership at 4595 North Lee Highway.

General

• The Covenant College women's basketball team was one of 48 winter/spring Scholar Teams recognized Monday by the National Christian College Athletic Association. The Lady Scots had an aggregate grade point average of 3.43 on a 4.0 scale.
