Sheriff: Youths beat goat, tossed it off bridge

WEST POINT, Ala. - Four Alabama youths are accused of stealing a goat, beating the animal and then tossing it from an 18-foot-high bridge into shallow water below, where it died.

Authorities say the suspects videotaped the crime, which led to their arrests.

The Cullman Times reports that the four West Point juveniles were being held at a juvenile facility on felony theft and misdemeanor cruelty to animal charges. Their names were not released because they are juveniles.

Cullman County sheriff's officials say they stole the young goat the night of Feb. 22. Authorities say its legs appear to have been bound when it was thrown over the bridge.

Investigators say they became aware of the crime when rumors began circulating among local students that a cell phone video of the crime existed.
