Snow on Cumberland Plateau, Chattanooga area higher elevations

A winter storm moved into the Southern Appalachian and upper Tennessee Valley region Friday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Light snow was expected to fall overnight and into Saturday across the region with higher snowfall amounts in the higher elevations.

The winter weather advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. EST Saturday.

Snow accumulations in the valley locations will be light, but accumulations on the plateau will total 1 to 2 inches.

Snow will continue overnight then will taper to flurries Saturday morning.

Bridges and overpasses on the plateau may become slick overnight.
