Former City Councilman Yusuf Hakeem and incumbent member Peter Murphy are evidently headed for an April 9 runoff in their race for the District 9 City Council seat.

They each received more than 49 percent of the vote, but officials with the Hamilton County Election Commission said that to be elected a candidate must have 50 percent of the vote plus one.

Hakeem's vote total was 1,030 and Murphy's was 1,024. There were seven write-in votes.

The provisional ballots have yet to be counted, and the commission has up to four days to complete that. The number of those ballots was unknown.
