Business Briefs: Chattanoogan hotel work nearly done

Chattanoogan work nearly done

The Chattanoogan, Chattanooga's only AAA Four Diamond-rated hotel, is finalizing $700,000 of renovations to its 25,000 square-foot conference facilities.

The refurbishment, originally budgeted to cost $954,000, represents the first major upgrade of the convention facilities since the city-owned hotel opened downtown in April 2001.

Tom Cupa, general manager, said the upgrade includes new carpet and wallcoverings; a new glass tile entry wall; recovering of acoustical wall panels; replacing upholstered seating; updating the refreshment island; enhancing the corridor lighting; and transforming the area that housed traditional phone booths into a contemporary cyber cafe with charging stations and seating.

Job fair March 27

Job seekers in Northwest Georgia will have a opportunity in three weeks to connect with local employers.

The Georgia Department of Labor and the Walker County Chamber of Commerce's Business and Industry Council are teaming up to host the 2013 Northwest Georgia Career Expo from 1 to 4 p.m., March 27 at the Walker County Civic Center, 10052 N. Highway 27 in Rock Spring.

About 35 employers will attend the expo. Applicants should bring several copies of their resume, dress professionally and be prepared to interview. Jobs to be filled include manufacturing jobs such as assemblers, twisters, creelers, warehouse workers, forklift operators, machine operators, material handlers, maintenance technicians and truck drivers. There also will be several retailers looking to fill vacant slots, as well as job openings in health care and social services.
