An early morning fire today did an estimated $100,000 in damage to a house, garage and van in the Sale Creek area.

The Sale Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire at 433 Quiet Trail Lane to find the fire was in the garage and a vehicle and was spreading to the nearby house.

"The fire was difficult to contain," Sale Creek VFD Chief Jimbo Aslinger said. " The house had several roof add-ons which creates dead space for the fire to travel throughout the house. We had fire in the attic area and in the crawlspace and this make firefighting challenging."

Homeowners David and May Jo Newhouse said a family member preparing for work at 5 a.m. heard a popping sound coming from the garage. When he went to check it out, he saw fire and immediately awakened the six other family members so as to leave the house.

The family said they had a heating lamp in the garage for their six chickens. But a news release said fire investigators will be on the scene to determine the exact cause of the fire.
