The Southern All-Stars will open the Cleveland Speedway season with the 18th annual Shamrock race Saturday night, and drivers in the Steelhead Limited Late Models and Crate Late Models divisions will run "double trouble" races with each winner getting $1,200. The Shamrock will pay $10,000 to its winner, and Randy Weaver from Crossville will be trying to make it two SAS victories in a row at the track following his Gobbler win that clinched his 2012 series championship. Challengers on the one-third-mile dirt oval will come from elsewhere in Tennessee plus Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky and the Carolinas. A- and B-Hobby races also are scheduled for Saturday, when the gates will open at 2 p.m. and hot-laps practice will start about 6. Country music artist Cody McCarver will sing the national anthem; he's in the movie "L.A. Dirt" and will sign autographs from 4:30 to 5 p.m.

Golf

• Former Baylor School standouts Luke List and Stephan Jaeger shot 68 and 70 in the first round of the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open on Thursday at the Trump International Golf Club at Rio Grande, Calif. Andres Romero and Cameron Percy led with 7-under-par 65s, and List was tied for 14th. It was the first PGA Tour event for Jaeger, who starred for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga after leaving Baylor. McMinn County native Eric Axley opened with a 76.

• The Covenant College men's golf team finished second to the host school in the Wittenburg Invitational tournament Thursday at Hilton Head, S.C. Wittenburg shot a 309 to the Scots' 318, two shots better than NCAA Division I member Savannah State. Covenant's Levi Nix was second individually with a 76, and Trey Patterson shot 78.

Baseball

• Two errors on a bases-loaded grounder to shortstop in the eighth inning doomed Sewanee to a 10-9 SAA baseball loss Thursday at Berry, which trailed 8-3 before a four-run sixth inning. Ben Clune had three of the 12 hits for Sewanee (4-6, 0-4), and Allen Thigpen had two hits and three RBIs. James Snover and Colin Barrera also had two hits each.

Softball

• Ashlen Mitchell had an RBI hit in each game for the Tennessee Temple softball team Thursday, but the Lady Crusaders lost 5-1 and 10-1 to Southern Wesleyan at Warner Park. Raven Pope was 2-for-3 in game two for Temple (7-7).

• Covenant won 9-6 and lost 5-3 to Concordia-Ann Arbor in softball Thursday on Lookout Mountain. Jenni Jobe was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Courtney Waggoner was 2-for-4 and Chandler Shepherd scored two runs and plated one for Covenant (1-9) in the first game. Morgan Lane was 2-for-3 with a triple, and RBI and an run in the loss.

• Snead State edged Cleveland State 4-3 and 3-1 in junior college softball Wednesday at Boaz, Ala. Paige Mayer hit a two-run single and Amber Covington homered in game one for the visiting Lady Cougars (1-7), and Meghan Allen had two of their four hits and Amber Swaney singled in the run in game two. Hannah Harris had Snead's first RBI of the day and homered and doubled in the second game.

Lacrosse

• Undefeated Marymount from Virginia beat Sewanee 13-9 with a 9-3 second half in women's lacrosse Thursday at Baylor School. Sammy Strasburger had 13 saves for Sewanee (4-3), which got six ground balls from Dori Wilson.
