The Strip: Things I wish my kids would ask me

Editor's note: Barry Courter has a 23-year-old son who is a college graduate and a 19-year-old daughter who is a freshman in college.

Q: Dad, how should I deal with the landlord in my new apartment?

A: Like you would want to be treated yourself. Be up front and honest about things. When things break, don't wait to report them. If you break something, tell them. Also remember that they have very likely seen and heard everything, so trying to outsmart or scheme them is not likely to end well for you.
