A Hollywood, Ala., man remains in the Jackson County Jail today on robbery and theft charges stemming from a Tuesday incident.

Jason Eugene Freeman, 30, was arrested and charged with theft of property 1st degree and robbery 3rd degree, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

An incident report states Freeman was the passenger in a vehicle traveling on Highway 117 in Stevenson, Ala., when, the driver claims, Freeman grabbed the steering wheel and demanded the victim, whose name was not released, pull over.

When the driver stopped the vehicle, the suspect allegedly struck him in the face, took the keys and the driver's cell phone.

Freeman then drove to a cemetery where the victim fled the vehicle, the report states. Freeman then left in the vehicle.

Later that same day, the victim located his vehicle on County Road 214 in Woodville, Ala., at a home where the residents had called the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and reported the suspect as an unwanted guest. Freeman fled into the woods as investigators, deputies and Woodville police arrived, but he later was found and arrested in an abandoned mobile home on County Road 214.

According to the release, the stolen vehicle, a Chevrolet HHR, was released to the victim.

Freeman is being held on $7,500 bond.
