Earlier this week, Jim Gaffigan was shooting a pilot for CBS in which he'll play a happily married and harried father of five.

The comedian happens to be a happily married and harried father of five.

If that gives you some idea about Gaffigan's comedy, you'd be right.

His White Bread Tour stops at the Tivoli Theatre on Sunday, March 17, when you'll likely hear about his wife, his kids, everyday life and food. Especially bacon. Who doesn't like to hear about bacon?

"Gaffigan stands in small and unique company," said an online 2012 review of his online "Mr. Universe" show in The Laugh Button. "He's one of the few comedians that works clean and has an act for nearly anyone to enjoy, yet he's still able to walk the line where he's edgy, respected by peers, gets critical acclaim and makes a decent living at it."

Almost everything about the comedian's background screams normal and typical, so perhaps that's why he is able to skewer everyday life so well.

Gaffigan, 46, born and raised in Indiana, grew up in a large family, was raised in the Catholic faith, briefly played Division III football in college and graduated from Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business.

Instead of making general business his career, though, he has made show business his calling.

Gaffigan has done Broadway, has performed his shtick on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien," "The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien" and "The Daily Show," and has had roles in such movies as "The Love Guru," "Away We Go," "17 Again," "Super Troopers" and "Thirty Years To Live."

Before his current project with CBS, he starred in three seasons of the 2006-2010 TBS sitcom "My Boys."

Civic-minded as well, Gaffigan's online stand-up show "Mr. Universe" diverts part of its proceeds to the Bob Woodruff Foundation, which assists veterans and their families.

According to his website, Gaffigan also is about to turn out a book. "Dad Is Fat" is scheduled to be in stores May 7.

He describes it as "all about the joys and horrors of my life with my five young children. I'm not sure if it's a memoir, a confession, an apology or a cry for help but [wife] Jeannie and friends have told me it's really funny."
