The Lee University basketball teams won their opening games Wednesday in the NAIA Division I national tournaments and will play again Friday morning.

The Lady Flames improved to 31-2 by downing LSU Shreveport 60-55 in the first game of the women's tournament in Frankfort, Ky. The third-seeded Flames went to 30-3 with a 67-49 defeat of Voorhees in the second game of the men's event in Kansas City, Mo.

The women's opener started slowly with both teams shooting 24 percent from the field in the first half, but Lee shot 42.3 percent after halftime while the Pilots (25-6) shot 36.4 percent. All-American Hollie German scored 22 points with five 3-point baskets and Jenna Adams had 16 points and 18 rebounds for the Lady Flames, and Myriah Iles had 15 rebounds. She and Adams each grabbed six on the offensive end.

Sharde Henry scored 15 points for LSUS, but that was four below her average and she was just 1-for-7 on 3s. Lee plays at 9 a.m. Friday against Carroll from Montana.

Chase Dunn scored 19 points for Lee's men, and Duran Blue and Will Barnes scored 13 apiece while Jamorris Gaines had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Blue had seven assists.

Brandon Allen had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Voorhees (22-12), which shot just 25 percent for the game compared to 43.5 percent for the Flames. Lee plays at 11:45 a.m. EST Friday against Montana Western, which edged Philander Smith 99-94 in overtime.
