Georgia boy mauled by pit bull, critically injured

MACON, Ga. - Macon police say the owner of a pit bull who attacked a 5-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with cruelty to children.

Police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet says the boy was attacked by a pit bull Thursday afternoon and suffered injuries to his scalp, arm, head, face and legs. He was hospitalized in critical condition and was later upgraded to stable condition. Gaudet says the boy is in the intensive care unit at children's Hospital.

The dog owner's identity was not released Friday afternoon, and Gaudet says the man has been taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

Authorities say the dog has been euthanized. Police say they're investigating the incident and additional details are not available.
