Monday, March 18, 2013

As of 9:30 p.m., 3,500 North Georgia residents are without power due to strong winds in the area, according to a news release.

Damaged power lines have been reported in Chattooga, Catoosa, Walker, Murray and Whitfield counties.

Efforts to restore power will continue through the night and morning, due to the extent of the damage, the release states.

Officials urge residents to stay away from downed lines and report them immediately to their local power company, 911 or NGEMC.

NGEMC members can report power outages through mobile apps or by calling the automated telephone outage reporting system. Crews will remain available until all power has been restored, according to the release.
