A 21-year-old Dalton, Ga., man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for having sex with a then 12-year-old girl after she had run away from home.

Cody Satterfield, who was 19 at the time, pleaded guilty in January to child molestation and was sentenced today to 10 years in prison and ten on probation, the district attorney’s office said in a news release.

In 2011, the 12-year-old girl’s father reported his daughter as a runaway and a Whitfield County deputy found her with Satterfield, said Conasauga District Attorney Bert Poston.

After first denying any wrongdoing, Satterfield admitted to police the sexual conduct with the girl and that he knew she was only 12, Poston said.

Additional charges of aggravated child molestation and enticing a child were dismissed by the state in exchange for the guilty plea, Poston said. When Satterfield is released from prison, he will be prohibited from contacting the girl and is required to register as a sex offender.
