Chattanooga Councilman files lawsuit calling for runoff for District 9

by Cliff Hightower

Chattanooga City Councilman Peter Murphy today filed suit against the Hamilton County Commission over its ruling that said Yusuf Hakeem had won the District 9 race in the March 5 election and that there would be no runoff.

Murphy had earlier contended he would file a suit seeking a runoff in the race for the District 9 seat.

Murphy filed the suit in Hamilton County Chancery Court.

The race was decided by six votes with Hakeem, a former Chattanooga city councilman, ruled the winner.

Chattanooga is holding a runoff in the District 4 race April 9.
