Goulart steps down as Fort Oglethope city manager; Harold Silcox voted in as interim and then fires police chief

In a special called City Council meeting this afternoon, Fort Oglethorpe City Manager Ron Goulart resigned, effective Monday.

Goulart, whose been city manager for three years, said he was forced to resign or be fired.

In the same meeting, Mayor Lynn Long nominated, former city councilman Harold Silcox, who was sitting in the audience, as the interim city manager.

The vote to hire him was 3-1, with Councilman Earl Gray casting the no vote.

Thirty minutes later, Silcox's first acts were to fire Police Chief David Eubanks and Public Works Director Jeff Long.

Neither Long, who has worked for the city for 19 years, or Eubanks, who has been police chief for five years, were given a severance.
