Bryan College Lions split two at Reinhardt

L.J. Rowden pitched a five-hitter as Bryan College won 8-0 in the second game of an Appalachian Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Friday at Reinhardt. The host Eagles won the first game 4-3 in eight innings, after scoring the tying three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Grand Zawadzki and Cody Rhinehart each was 3-for-4, Zawadzki with two RBIs, in the win for the Lions, when Tyler Latham homered and drove in three runs and Blake Johnson had a solo shot. Johnson, Joey Underwood and Jess Cartner had two hits each and Chris Jeffries scored twice.

Jeffries homered and Latham was 2-for-3 in game one for Bryan (16-14, 4-7).

In another AAC doubleheader, Tennessee Wesleyan (24-9, 9-2) won 9-6 and lost 8-3 at Union College.

• Lee 6-6, Southern Polytechnic 0-0: At Cleveland, the Flames completed a three-game Southern States sweep as Jose Samayoa (6-1) pitched a two-hitter and Clint Terry (4-1) allowed only one hit and struck out seven in his 5 2/3 innings.

Derrick Pitts was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and catcher Danny Canela was 3-for-4 with his runner, Trevor Burgess, scoring three runs in game one. Pitts homered and scored twice in game two, when Corey Davis was 3-for-4, Cameron Brewster was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and Brady Renner and Josh Silver each had two hits for the Flames (26-7, 15-3).

• Georgia Gwinnett 5, Covenant 4: At Covenant, the host Scots fell to 15-4 when their three-run ninth-inning rally fell one short of extending the game. Christian Van Camp had a three-run homer in the third inning and a groundout for the fifth run in the fifth and then got the save for Gwinnett (19-6), which will host Covenant today. David Lockwood was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run for the Scots, and Perry Rigby had a two-run single.

Lady Tigers sweep

Chattanooga State swept visiting Volunteer State 11-0 and 8-0 in five-inning TCCAA softball games Friday.

Haley Fagan pitched a one-hitter in the first game and Shelby Willard threw a four-hitter with seven strikeouts in the second game. Khadija Neely homered in each game for the Lady Tigers (19-9, 10-4) and went 5-for-6 with five RBIs and four runs scored.

Baylee Williams and Beth Breeden were perfect at the plate in the opener with three each of the team's 17 hits. Williams had a triple and three RBIs. Marina Wilkerson and Courtney Clark were each 2-for-4 in that game. Wilkerson homered, drove in two runs and stole two bases and Clark tripled, doubled and had an RBI. Lacye Walker was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Emily Dagnan doubled in a run in the second game for the Lady Tigers.

• Emory 9-11, Covenant 0-0: At Covenant, Micah Scharff was 3-for-5 with a homer and five RBIs in the first game and Megan Light was 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the rematch as the Atlanta team rose to 34-1. Morgan Lane was 2-for-2 in game two for Covenant (2-16), which totaled seven hits in the doubleheader.
