Decosimo promotes four

Decosimo, a Chattanooga-based accounting and business advisory firm, has promoted four professionals in its Chattanooga headquarters.

Matt Hisey was named tax supervisor, Stephanie Lyons promoted to assurance senior and Morgan Clark and Jeff Smith were appointed as tax seniors.

Decosimo has offices in nine locations in the United States and the Cayman Islands, with approximately 300 professionals and staff. Each of Decosimo's offices provides a full range of accounting and advisory services to a wide array of industries.

Freedom Award nominees picked

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense operational committee, announced 44 Tennessee Guard and Reserve members nominated their employers for the 2013 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.

Three Chattanooga entities received nominations: Physicians Care, Girls Preparatory School and Chattanooga Police Department.

The agency received 2,899 nominations nationwide. The Freedom Award is the Department of Defense's highest recognition for employers supporting employees serving in the Guard and Reserve. Up to 15 award recipients will be announced this summer and honored in Washington, D.C., later this year at the 18th annual Freedom Award ceremony.

Past award recipients have met with senior leaders of the White House and Department of Defense as part of the award recognition.

Rutledge named UTC dean

Dr. Valerie C. Rutledge has been named dean in the College of Health, Education and Professional Studies at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Rutledge currently serves as director of the School of Education at UTC and has led the school since August 2003.

According to Interim Provost Dr. Mary Tanner, Rutledge was chosen after a national search. A campus-based committee was led by Dr. Jerald Ainsworth, dean of the UTC Graduate School.

Before joining the UTC faculty in 1995, Rutledge taught English and Latin in Hamilton County Schools. In 1999, she was appointed to a nine-year term on the Tennessee State Board of Education.

She is a two-time graduate of UTC, where she received her bachelor's and master's degrees. She received her doctoral degree from the University of Tennessee.

Luthy receives designation

Kyle S. Luthy, a financial adviser with Ameriprise Financial in Chattanooga, has achieved the professional designation of chartered retirement planning counselor SM through the College of Financial Planning.

Luthy successfully completed the rigorous requirements that include course work and a series of examinations that cover pre-and post-retirement needs, asset management, estate planning and the entire retirement planning process using models and techniques from real client situations.

CGLA gets 10 printers

Connected Tennessee's Computers 4 Kids program has donated 10 new printers to the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy on behalf of the Young Women's Leadership Academy Foundation.

The printers will be awarded to the academy as a part of a donation made by Lexmark International to the Computers 4 Kids program. Kentucky-based Lexmark has provided a total of 250 printers to the C4K program.
