Chattanooga State beats Volunteer State

Defending national softball champion Chattanooga State continued to right its TCCAA ship Saturday by completing a two-day, four-game sweep of visiting Volunteer State.

The Lady Tigers imiproved to 12-4 in the league and 21-9 overall with a 9-0 win in five innings and a 3-0 victory in which Khadija Neely's three-run first-inning home run stood up as the difference. Haley Fagen was the winning pitcher with Shelby Willard pitching the last two innings for the save in the finale.

Marina Wilkerson and Lacye Walker hit two-run homers and Walker pitched a five-inning two-hitter with six strikeouts in Saturday's first game. Emily Dagnan was 1-for-2 with a homer and Neely was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

• Hendrix 12-14, Sewanee 0-0: At Conway, Ark., the Tigers fell to 0-6 in the Southern Athletic Association and 5-7 overall by being no-hit in the first five-inning game and not being able to capitalize on six hits in the rematch.

Sarah Fleming was 2-for-3 in game two for Sewanee. The teams play another doubleheader today.

• UAB 7-6, Memphis 5-4: At Memphis, Chattanooga's Laura Curtis had an RBI in each game, but her Tigers fell to 14-19 and 3-5 in Conference USA with the two defeats.
