Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is hosting a discussion on Friday at 6:30 p.m. about the experiences of women at Chickamauga Battlefield during the Civil War.
Ranger Lee White will lead the free, half-hour talk at the battlefield’s Visitor Center.
The program will discuss the confining set of rules under which antebellum women were expected to live. Like many other aspects of life, the Civil War changed those rules.
Women such as Nadine Turchin, and other wives of Army officers, defied social edicts by traveling with their husbands and experiencing life with soldiers in camps. This program will explore some of their lives.
