The Tennessee Department of Transportation is suspending all interstate highway construction work this Easter weekend in anticipation of increased holiday travel, a news release states.

All road construction that requires lane closures will be stopped from Thursday at 6 p.m. through Monday at 6 a.m., according to the release from the department.

"Suspending interstate construction in Tennessee during the Easter holiday will permit a free flow of traffic and reduce potential delays," TDOT Commissioner John Schroer said. "I also encourage motorists to download the SmartWay mobile app to get up-to-the minute traffic information before they hit the road this weekend."

Motorists still will encounter some long-term lane closures on construction projects that will remain in place, some workers may be on-site in construction zones and reduced speed limits still will be in effect, the release states.
