The United States is assured of the men's 55 tennis doubles world championship in the ITF Seniors individual competition on the clay at Antalya, Turkey, and Chattanooga's Wesley Cash is among the finalists. The Manker Patten teaching pro and Mark Vines of Lynchburg, Va. -- the No. 2 seeds -- won their semifinal Friday against fifth-seeded Peter Hampton of New Zealand and Ross Persons of the U.S., 6-3, 6-3, and seventh-seeded fellow Americans Mike Tammen and Daniel Waldman followed their quarterfinal upset of the No. 1 seeds by downing third-seeded Andrew Rae and Gary Thoroughgood of Australia, 6-4, 6-2.

• While the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team lost 6-1 Friday at Furman, the Mocs' Manuel Barroetavena raised his 2013 singles record to 11-3 with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win at No. 2. He also won in doubles with Jackson Tresnan. Three of UTC's singles losses went three sets.

• The Sewanee women's tennis team beat Oglethorpe 9-0 and the Sewanee men won 5-4 with third-set singles wins by Connor Winkler and Eric Roddy on Friday. Rand Jackson at No. 1 also won in singles, 6-2, 6-3 for the male Tigers (6-5), who took two doubles wins from Jackson with Laughlin and Roddy with Grant Hopkins. Some of the usual lineup was held out for the nationally ranked Sewanee women (10-5), with others moving up, yet Anne Garland won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 and Kate Johnston, Liz Lucas, Elske Parker, Meredith Lawrence and Connor Thomas lost a combined six games with their straight-set victories.

Baseball

• The Covenant College baseball team scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning and beat Emory 4-2 on Friday in Atlanta. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Covenant today. K.C. Simons began the Scots' final at-bat with a single, and Will Cleland doubled him to third before David Lockwood loaded the bases by reaching on an error. Scott Gillespie's single tied the game, and Sterling Witt's sacrifice fly and Perry Rigby's single gave the visitors their two-run edge. Alec Mitchell (4-1) got the pitching win with two scoreless innings in relief of Micah Mabe, who allowed four hits with only 95 pitches for seven innings. Simons, Cleland and Gillespie each was 2-for-4 for Covenant (17-4), Cleland with two runs and Gillespie with two RBIs.

• Corey Rhone pitched a nine-inning four-hitter in outdueling Kevin Greene as Tennessee Wesleyan edged Cumberland 1-0 in a matchup of nationally ranked NAIA baseball teams Friday in Athens. Travis Burnside was 2-for-4 and scored on Jake Stone's sixth-inning double for No. 9 TWC (26-10); Trey Griffin was 2-for-3. Cory Urquhart was 2-for-4 for the 15th-ranked Lebanon team.

• Cody Rhinehart went 3-for-4 and matched Kevin Layne with two RBIs as Bryan College won 5-4 in the first game of its Appalachian Athletic Conference home baseball doubleheader Friday against Union College. Tyler Latham was 2-for-2, walked twice and scored a run and Jess Cartner had an RBI double for the host Lions, and Kenny Knudsen got the pitching win with Joey Vega notching a save. Union (20-14, 7-7) won the second game 3-1, dropping the Lions to 17-16 overall, 5-9 in the AAC.

• The NAIA's No. 1-ranked Lee University baseball team swept a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader at Loyola in New Orleans on Friday, 8-2 and 11-0. Myles Smith (7-2) got the first pitching win with eight strikeouts and only five hits and one earned run allowed in five innings, and then Jose Samayoa (7-1) and relievers David Eskew and CJ Lusted combined on a one-hitter with Samayoa striking out 11 in six innings. Josh Silver homered in both games for the Flames (29-7, 17-3), going 3-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and three runs in game two after batting in two in the opener. Derrick Pitts was 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs in game one, and Mark Silva was 2-for-3 with two doubles in that game and 2-for-3 again with a homer, two RBIs and two runs in the rematch. Corey Davis doubled twice and scored twice in the first game; Brady Renner was 2-for-3 with two runs in game two.

• Middle Tennessee State ace Hunter Adkins from Red Bank High School pitched well but didn't figure in the decision as the Blue Raiders lost their Sun Belt Conference series opener Friday night at Troy, 3-2. Each team scored a run in the ninth. Adkins pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and two runs and striking out seven.

Lacrosse

• The Sewanee women's lacrosse team clinched the top seeding in the Southern Athletic Association tournament by beating visiting Berry 21-6 on Friday. Sally Anne Greenwood had four goals and an assist and Molly Arnold and Olivia Vietor each scored three goals for the Tigers (9-4, 4-0), while Sammy Strasburger made six saves. They led 15-4 at halftime.

• Michael Morris had two goals, three assists and a team-high nine ground balls while Pierce Leonard and Ian Gillan also had two goals apiece in Sewanee's 10-5 SAA men's lacrosse win over Birmingham-Southern. Tommy Healy had nine saves for the Tigers (8-2, 3-0).
